'I need your help, Detective. Fire or water?' Detective Robert Hunter of the LAPD's Homicide Special Section receives an anonymous call asking him to go to a specific web address - a private broadcast. Hunter logs on and a show devised for his eyes only immediately begins. But the caller doesn't want Detective Hunter to just watch, he wants him to participate, and refusal is simply not an option. Forced to make a sickening choice, Hunter must sit and watch as an unidentified victim is tortured and murdered live over the Internet. The LAPD, together with the FBI, use everything at their disposal to electronically trace the transmission down, but this killer is no amateur, and he has covered his tracks from start to finish. And before Hunter and his partner Garcia are even able to get their investigation going, Hunter receives a new phone call. A new website address. A new victim. But this time the killer has upgraded his game into a live murder reality show, where anyone can cast the deciding vote.

Commentary Epithetical Books One by One (Robert Hunter #5)
The 5th book in the Robert Hunter series of books by Chris Carter.I was really looking forward to this book as I rated all of his previous 4 books 5 stars. I started late yesterday and I just couldn't put it down. Like the other books it is not for the feint hearted, full of gore and sadistic killings and not really the type of book I would like to read all the time especially late at night but for the marvelous Chris Carter I am always prepared to make an exception.A really good psychological

I have read all the books in the series and loved them but I found One By One a little drab in comparison. Don't get me wrong this is still a great read which held my attention all the way through but I just felt it lacked something and was a bit lacklustre in comparison with its predecessors. Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia are great protagonists who work very effectively as a team and are a pleasure to read. The plotting (covered by the synopsis) is intricate, gruesome and definitely not for

This is without a doubt one of the best crime fiction books I have ever read. And, dare I say it, one of the most enjoyable. From the opening to closing chapter I could not stop reading. I love short chapters, they end so abruptly and usually on a cliffhanger that you really have no choice but to continue reading. Some authors aren't that good with the short chapters, but Chris Carter isn't one of them. He is a fantastic writer and tells one hell of a story. I read The Hunter a few days ago

I liked Chris Carter's previous books. This wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was as good as his other books. But it was better than some of the absolute trot I've read recently lol.I was put off somewhat because I found the story to be incredibly similar to a movie called Untraceable . Similar to the point of plagiarism... The plot, methods and reasoning behind the killings in the book are pretty much identical to those in Untraceable , the only marked difference is the investigator...People

I didn't plan to read this book.Riding a commuter train home, a woman next to me was reading it. When the train approached her stop, she got ready to leave, but put the book down on the table between the seats and left it there. Another passenger and I pointed out that she'd forgotten her book, but she said "No, I don't want it!" and turned away. Was it that bad? She had been reading up to about the middle of the book. Was there something horrible in it that she didn't want to continue? I had to
