Charnas is a capable writer but this book really, really SUCKED. I read about 3/4 of it and I just couldn't bear to read anymore. I can't imagine how anyone could take a vampire and make him so completely and unbearably dull. Interesting take on vampire lore. This was actually 5 novellas strung together by one vampire being the main character. Each novella is told from a different perspective. My favorite was the 3rd story in which our vampire sees a psychiatrist about his "illusion" of being a vampire.
